We investigated the energy protein intake Nigerian CKD determined association with malnutrition. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis dietary was conducted using 24hour recall three-day diary records. For malnutrition, anthropometric biochemistry tests were performed. Results: Mean 32.08±4.44 kcalkg-1 d-1 38.63±4.01 vs controls respectively (P<.001). The Evaluation of Dietary Protein Intake by Calculation of Urea Generation Rate in Chronic Dialysis Patients in Kerman, 2002

Malnutrition is a common problem in chronic dialysis patients. There are several methods for nutritional assessment of hemodialysis patients, such as calculation of urea generation rate. As urea is produced from proteins catabolism and there is a linear correlation between urea generation and protein catabolic rate (PCR), PCR can be calculated by considering urea nitrogen appearence during the ...

Dietary Protein Intake in a Multi-ethnic Asian Population of Healthy Participants and Chronic Kidney Disease Patients.

INTRODUCTION Clinical practice guidelines recommend different levels of dietary protein intake in predialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. It is unknown how effectively these recommendations perform in a multi-ethnic Asian population, with varied cultural beliefs and diets. We assess the profi le of protein intake in a multi-ethnic Asian population, comparing healthy participants and ...

Association between Low Dietary Protein Intake and Geriatric Nutrition Risk Index in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Retrospective Single-Center Cohort Study

Reduced dietary protein intake in malnourished patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may be associated with adverse clinical outcomes, which may mask any efficacy of a low-protein diet. The study included 126 patients with CKD who attended a dedicated dietary counseling clinic in 2005-2009 and were systematically followed until January 2015. Of these patients, 20 (15.9%) had moderate or se...

Dietary acid load and chronic kidney disease in elderly adults: Protein and potassium intake

BACKGROUND Dietary net endogenous acid production (NEAP), which represents total dietary load of nonvolatile acid, may affect kidney function. Estimated NEAP (eNEAP) is calculated indirectly by the ratio of protein and potassium intake. A few studies are available assessing the association between eNEAP and chronic kidney disease (CKD), and its relation to dietary protein and potassium intake i...
